I've been "hearting" the Theater Fire ever since my friend Daniel gave me a burned CD several years ago. I've seen them go from virtually un googleable to being routinely mentioned on KERA's Art & Seek calendar and blog.
I seriously made them a music myspace (yeah, I said the M word) just so I could add one of their songs to my profile. THAT'S how un-findable they were.
That was then. These days the TTF (that's right, they demand the article) is riding moderatley high on their sophomore album "Matter and Light". They just concluded their west coast tour and are about to embark on the East coast leg of it. Before this group of guys sets off again check them out at Lee Harvey's. They draw a great group of dancers. Young blonde hipsters doing the pasty shoe-gazer dance (picture it...they gaze, at their shoes, and do a little shimmy sham-sham, clever huh? oh, and they're pasty, cause they're hipsters).
Baby boomer white ladies drunk on the Stevie Nicks songs that are stuck on a loop in their minds' ear twirl herky-jerky to the trumpets and wash board.
It'll be a helluva show. check it out tonight at Lee Harvey's. Show's at, oh hell I don't know what time. At a place like Lee Harvey's you just show up, order a beer and wait. My guess is they'll play around your 3rd beer.
Clint Niosi is playing with them. You don't know him yet, but you will. And you'll like him. His make-you-grab-your dictionary lyrics, creamy voice and suspenders will hook you.
See ya tonight!
